Life With Seth

Apparently when told to get in the shower, Seth sheds all his clothes on the way up the stairs and then streaks across the upstairs hallway (quite visible from the street due to a large window in our two-story entry). Waiting to strip in the bathroom is just not an option. 

Seth has also developed a voracious appetite for books. He plowed his way through our collection of Great Illustrated Classics in just a week or two. Magic Tree House is a new favorite, but he can read an entire book in less than an hour. We will be visiting the library quite frequently.

Public school and I are still not comfortable with each other. It's a strange combination of holding Seth back from his potential (he's working on doubles addition when he's been doing multiplication at home for months) and forcing him to do things he's not capable of yet (SO MUCH WRITING, so hard for little boys still developing fine motor skills. And they think they'll be teaching cursive this year, bless their hearts). Also, one 20 minute recess at 2:40 pm. He's sitting at a desk or lunch table from 9 am to 2:40 pm, with a few classroom changes to break up the day. Not cool. 

But, besides a new shirt-chewing habit which we assume is coming from an inability to move all day, Seth LOVES school. I keep offering to let him come home, but he says, "Not yet" (although more time for playing Legos and iPad is a huge lure). He is excelling in everything except writing (the physical part--his spelling is great) and apparently keeping organized. Which is a huge shocker considering his father has never been great at keeping organized. So as long as he's happy and learning enough (we'll just keep doing multiplication at home), we'll stay where we are.

I have enjoyed the extra time to focus on Catherine. She tended to get lost between her needy little brother and her homeschooled older brother. We've spent a lot more time reading and cooking together. If nothing else, I'm grateful for this time with her before baby #4 arrives and life gets crazy again.
