Dia de los Muertos

Halloween was on a Sunday this year, which led to the eternal conflict: to trick or treat or not to trick or treat? We ultimately decided to pass on it and have a Dia de los Muertos party instead! This year I had my life a little more in order, so each kid researched an ancestor and wrote a little paper about them. We really enjoyed using Google Earth to look at the little villages in England and Wales where some of them came from. Our friends also brought pictures and stories to share. I really love this tradition and hope it's something we can keep doing.

This year's ofrenda.

Elise giving her report:
(Thanks to Tessa for the pictures!)

Aaron giving his report:

Seth giving his report:
The Mullins brought a bag of sweet hats for everyone to wear.

Catherine refused to give her report in front of everyone.

We enjoyed delicious soup and Mexican hot chocolate, plus ended the evening watching Coco.
The kids didn't seem to mind at all that they missed out on all the candy.
